Inspired by Old Norse Mythology
"Old Norse" mythology includes the ancient folk beliefs of the Vikings, Scandinavians, Danes, Anglo-Saxons, the Germanic tribes of Northern Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Austria, etc.) and the Baltic peoples. The old gods and goddesses might have slightly differing names - e.g. Odin, Woden, Wotan, Odhinn - but spiritually they are identical. Runes and rune lore are a major part of this culture.
One can find striking commonalities between Old Norse mysticism and that of the pre-Christian Celts and Slavs. They revered certain animals just as Native Americans do. Raven, Wolf, Bear, Eagle and numerous serpent/dragon creatures figure prominently in legends throughout all these cultures. The Vikings traveled far and wide, from ancient Russia and Ukraine to Greenland and North America, eventually settling and mingling with these tribes. My father tells me that my blue eyes and light hair are likely an ancestral trait from Vikings who settled in "Old Rus", present day Ukraine, a thousand years ago. The themes in my art are universal, as I believe all spirituality comes from the same place.
Each of these carvings is unique, crafted from shed antlers of Deer or Moose. The items shown are sold, but if you see a design you like, ask me about the availability of a similar piece. Keep in mind that no two carvings will turn out exactly the same. Click on a thumbnail picture for larger images.
